I have been doing animal portraits for over 40 years now, and they are still a joy to do!
There is something very special about having a painting or drawing done of a cherished companion, that goes far beyond what most photographs can. As a portrait, the work must do more than describe physical attributes, it must connect on a personal level, giving a strong sense of the unique character and personality of the subject. I work from photographs, but I cannot do much with badly shot photos or low resolution images any more that a human portrait artist could! . If you have a clear photograph that you particularly like, I can work from that plus information about the temperament and habits, likes and foibles of the subject. I can also give you detailed information on how to get great photos that will work for my purposes, and we can correspond until we have agreed on a source photo and you give me the go-ahead to start your commission. I can also come to you to take photos, or you can come to me. This provides me with first hand information on temperament and personality, and it is my preferred way to work. There is, however, a charge for mileage which is non-refundable. Gift certificates are available. All work is guaranteed! |
Water colour and InkThis is my favourite most of the time. It particularly suits long coated dogs, and brings out the shine of all coats.
